Sealing sites on wind turbines
As far as size and ageing resistance are concerned, seals and sealing systems for wind energy turbines require very special characteristics. Dichtomatik has accumulated years of experience in special seal systems for wind turbines with regard to dimensions, materials and design.
A. Pitch setting/Rotor blade adjustment/Rotor blade bearing
Sealing site between rotor blade and pitch bearing or rotor blade and spinner
Requirements
– counterbalancing large tolerances
– particularly tight fit necessary because of centrifugal force
– outstanding ageing resistance
– very good oil and lubricant resistance
Seals use
– extruded special profile seals, vulcanised joining or bonded directly on-site
B. Main shaft bearing/Transmission Generator
Requirements
– outstanding ageing resistance and a long lifespan
– very good oil and lubricant resistance
– great rigidity to prevent deformation during installation of large diameter seals
Seals and components use
– rotary shaft seals
– reinforced versions
– rubber/fabric (open or closed)
– metal outer surface
– V-Rings
– shaft protection sleeves
C. Azimuth adjustment/Gondola bearing
Sealing site between gondola and tower
Requirements
– counterbalancing large tolerances
– bridging of great gap dimensions
– outstanding ageing resistance
– very good oil and lubricant resistance
Seals used
– extruded special profile seals, vulcanised joining or bonded directly on-site
D. Special seals
– sealing of the gondola segments
– sealing systems for braking systems
– guiding and bearing bushes; e.g. for rotor locking
– static cover and flange sealings
